It's a second monitor on a two monitor setup. The picture is bright and crisp, very useful for office programs, email etc.However, the image quality is very desaturated. I played with the monitor controls every which way to cure this, but there's no taming it. Images are washed out regardless of what they say about deep blacks etc. in their promo. I can take a image and split it between my monitors and see the difference. I'm a photographer and have a good eye. It is inexpensive and does handle mundane tasks very well. However, if you plan to watch movies on your computer or view photos, or edit photos, don't buy this. ** Update: a commenter advised adjusting the gamma settings for this monitor with the video card tools. I opened up the nVidia control panel and was able to bring back the saturation, tweak the brightness and, all in all, make this much better. I still wouldn't recommend... The Viewsonic VA2033-LED is a great monitor. The lighting and color is much better than the LCD was. There's a default setting in the monitor where if a program changes the resolution (which is pretty common with many 3D games) a "resolution notice" will appear on the screen stating that you are not using the recommended resolution. The LED instead of the LCD is like a plasma TV compared to an LCD TV. It's very bright and exceptionally clear at the native reolution [1600X900]. Spreadsheets stretch WAY across this thing--it's ideal for Excel, etc. I turned the brightness down about 25%, along with the contrast, to get the best viewing experience. The gamma and color saturation were fine right out of the box. I am very pleased with this monitor, and I have had really good experiences with Viewsonic products in the past. |
