Bookstand Option
The VX2253mh-LED features a very innovative industrial design, which allows it to be utilized with either the traditional base or in a bookstand configuration. Simply remove the base and tilt the neck back, to allow the monitor head to be displayed as a picture frame on the desktop. What is a LED monitor?
The term "LED monitor" generally refers to a monitor with a LCD panel and a LED backlight. A typical LCD monitor uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) as a light source to illuminate the LCD panel. In an LED backlit monitor, white LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are used as the light source. LED backlight provide the following benefits:

MEGA dynamic contrast ratio
One of the great features of VX2253mh-LED is its ability to dim the backlight completely for pure darkness during dark scenes such as a night shot in a movie. Contrast ratios refer to the ratio of the brightest color to the darkest color. With traditional CCFL backlit displays, contrast ratios are limited to the fluorescent lamp’s ability to dim in order to reproduce darkness. However, with the LED backlight, each LED has the ability to completely shut off allowing for a near infinite ratio of black to white contrast. The end result is true blacks that result in greater overall image quality.

What is response time? Response time in monitors refer to the amount of time a pixel (dot) takes to go from black to white and back to black again. It is measured in milliseconds (ms). The lower the number, the faster the pixels can change, reducing the ghosting or streaking effect you might see in a moving or changing image such as in games and movies. Common response times range anywhere from 14ms to 5ms. Monitors that are designed for faster applications feature response times as fast as 2ms. Pros:
-1080p. Meaning it's capable of full hd, 1920x1080 (16:9) resolution.
-VGA port & 2 HDMI ports! PC & AV mode (doubles as a tv for blu-ray player or hdmi game console).
-Sound input (speakers are only 2 watts, worse than most laptops but better than nothing). Sound output (headphone jack!)
-Includes FoxConn brand HDMI cable, VGA cable, sound cable, CD with drivers (Win/Mac)

Good Value; as of April 2011 it's the newest model in this class from ViewSonic, with best stats (performance on paper) and best features (real world performance.. because 2 hdmi ports is a lot better than 1 dvi port). Light weight and low watts consumption/heat is the beauty of LED. Not a gorgeous monitor but for 16:9 monitors it's above-average. Still more glossy it needs to be, but not as bad as the VX2250 with the glass bezel. No bright blue led below-center blinding you, in fact the blue led on this can be turned off!

Been using this monitor about 2 weeks now. Love it.

Pros:
- picture quality is outstanding
- Value
- looks nice
- built in speakers

Cons:
- I use the built in speakers but adnittedly they are poor.
- base could be better - the screen does shake fairly easily

Bottom line: Great value. I would buy it again and again

I listed speakers as both a pro and con. I wanted a monitor with built in speakers to reduce clutter (1 less device to plug in, less wiring, etc). I was disppointed in them but still good enough when weighed against what I gain (aforementioned clutter reduction).

You only get 30,000,000:1 contrast ratio if you use their "dynamic" setting but it still looks awful anyway. You only get SRS sound of you install their software on your computer so if you hook a game console up to it forget it. The colors are dull and muddy and the black is not black, its gray. The screen on my laptop, iPad hell even my cell phone have better blacks than this monitor does. Comparing it to my dell ultrasharp monitor makes it look even worse and that monitor is 6 years old and still looks great. I was thoroughly disappointed in the quality of the colors and black levels. The picture was crisp and sharp but the colors just made it unusable, especially if you want to do any sort of graphic work on it. At work I use a Viewsonic VX2450WM-LED 24-Inch and the blacks and colors are phenomenal compared to this one. Only positive parts of this monitor were the two hdmi ports.
